"Shrill" Ann Coulter Dropped!

'Arizona Daily Star' Drops Ann Coulter's 'Shrill' Column

NEW YORKThe Arizona Daily Star in Tucson has had enough of conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

In a column announcing a wide range of changes in the paper's opinion pages Monday, Editor and Publisher David Stoeffler revealed that the paper was dropping Coulter's syndicated column.

"Many readers find her shrill, bombastic, and mean-spirited. And those are the words used by readers who identified themselves as conservatives," the recently appointed Stoeffler wrote.

One recent example of Coulter's controversial approach was in her Aug. 10 column. She wrote: "(T)he savages have declared war, and it's far preferable to fight them in the streets of Baghdad than in the streets of New York -- where the residents would immediately surrender."

Coulter's column is distributed weekly by Universal Press Syndicate.

Taking her place in the Star will be the Creators Syndicate column by fellow conservative Tony Snow, host of "The Tony Snow Show" on Fox News Radio and "Weekend Live With Tony Snow" on the Fox News Channel. He has also worked for several newspapers.

Stoeffler's piece also mentioned other changes in the Star's opinion pages, including smaller photos and cartoons to make room for longer columns and more letters.

Stoeffler has been at the paper just nine weeks. He said the paper had received about 300 e-mails on a recent re-design, and many were negative. So the Star is shifting back to “more words” and a less fancy design.

For one thing, the cartoons by David Fitzsimmons will now run smaller, freeing up room for another columnist.

“Running a newspaper is something like building a three-legged stool,” Stoeffler explained. “We need to understand and satisfy a broad audience. Through a combination of market research and regular contact, we come to know what readers want."

Bigotted piece of crap, Ann Coulter, proves her worth (zero) again!

You can agree with Cindy Sheehan or disagree with her. She has, certainly become a lightening rod since the beginning of her vigil in Crawford. She wants Dubya to explain, "for what great cause did my son, Casey Sheehan, die.

But Ann Coulter sunk to a new low... hard to believe for someone that would have to stand on a ladder to kiss a snakes belly... in her contribution to the Wrong Wing's attack on Cindy Sheehan.

Cindy left Crawford to be with her mother after finding out about her mother's stroke. Coulter links to an article entitled 'Peace Mom,' Her Mother Ill, Leaves Camp that explains the circumstances of Cindy's temporary departure.

What was Coulter's title for the link? She Was Probably Worried about Jewish Doctors . Has Cindy Sheehan given any indication of bigotry on the scale of Ann "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity" Coulter?

Pat Robertson's Curse

The one and only Benny Hinn said, "The homosexuals will be consumed by fire in 1998!"

He said, "Fidel Castro will die in the 90's!"

He said, "Washed-up, has-been preachers spouting assassination will get hemmoroids!"

Batting .333 in baseball is pretty good! Not so good in the prophesy game, but Hall of Fame numbers in baseball!

Two Mothers

One mother wants to know "for what noble cause" did her son die. Another mother says that if any (or all?) of her 5 sons and husband serving in Iraq should die, they "would leave this world doing what they believe, what they think is right for our country".

Seeing as how Dubya can't seem to find the time between bike falls, to talk to Cindy Sheehan, maybe Tammy Pruett could talk to her and give her some answers. Then again, Tammy Pruett doesn't know crap about what Cindy is going through because, fortunately, all of the men in her family are alive.

The biased liberal media, my ass!

Norah O'Donnell, of MSNBC, labeled Crawford protesters "anti-war extremists" in a put-up interview with former FBI agent Coleen Rowley, now a Democratic congressional candidate in Minnesota. Norah belongs on the Faux News Channel.

Exxon Announces Merger With White House

Yesterday, it was announced that the former chief of staff of the White House's Council on Environmental Quality, Philip Cooney, who resigned five days ago after it was disclosed that he had doctored government climate change reports in favor of the oil industry's position, has been hired by Exxon Mobil. While Cooney will now sit at the other side of the table at the White House's energy meetings, his job will remain the same -- to do the bidding of the oil industry.

His only crime appears to be getting caught.

Homeland Hypocrisy

When the Wrong Wing set about invoking all the Homeland Security rules, laws, and sanctions, they sure as heck weren’t talking about white boys, for goodness sake. Those laws were for evildoers like Mooslums.

An Oklahoma white boy was caught with a pipe bomb in his carry-on luggage and is walking on the streets now thanks to the help of a former Republican mayor.

Whacko Wrong Wing Radio pundit, Limbaugh said the Abu Ghraib prison fiasco as just “frat boy hijinks”…”just blowing off some steam”.

Former Republican Mayor, Kirk Humphreys

Former Republican mayor Kirk Humphreys says Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr. is just a boy that likes to “see things go bang.”
Dreyling is out on bail now. Gitmo is full.

Humphreys is a white male from Oklahoma. (Wasn’t there a big building in Oklahoma City blown up by a white male from Oklahoma?) Gitmo is full of dark skinned Arabs.

El Rushbo sticks his foot in it again.

It's hard to think of anyone getting more press for being more audacious, rude, insensitive, and just-plain-stupid as Rush Limbaugh. This is an icon of the Wrong Wing and he says stupid things like this:

Regarding Cindy Sheehan's Iraq war protest:

"Frankly, I'm also fed up -- not fed up. I retract that. I'm weary, ladies and gentlemen, of even having to express sympathy. 'Oh, she lost her son!' Yes, yes, yes, but (sigh) we all lose things."

Truer words have never been spoken you pill poppin' hypocritical puppet. "We all lose things."

In RushWorld -

Rush: "I lost my dealer. I lost my prescription. I lost what little integrity I had left... and to think.... this broad is whining over a silly little thing like losing her son! The selfishness of this brazen hussy is beyond belief!"

Red State/ Faux News Mentality Exposed

Thanks to Media Matters for sharing John Gibson's amazing revelation:

GIBSON: I think what happened was [President] Bush said, and I said, "You know what, we have a firm demonstration how vulnerable we are to terrorism, let's look around and see who is it that wants to do things to us. And let's go knock them off -- the guy who did it to us and the guy who is thinking about it," and picked Saddam Hussein. We think he's a bad player, we think he's got a grudge, we think the war in '91 never ended for him. He's going right on doing stuff to us under the radar. And there's a ton of stuff connecting him to terrorists, but if you don't want to believe it, fine.

But let me just say, that we said we're going after Saddam Hussein. That's what was going on in our country. And people said, give us a good reason. We said, OK, fine, let's find one. Let's pick one. What is it you would believe -- what is it you would give an OK for war? What is it? And then the world said, weapons of mass destruction. OK, fine. What's the information out there? French say they got them, Russians say they got them, the U.N.'s [United Nations] past resolutions, Bill Clinton said they got them and you can't trust them.

So we say, OK, fine, that's the reason. We'll pick that one. But when you get right down to it, way before that one ever was offered, we wanted to get him because he's just a bad guy who shouldn't be running that country, and we had good reason to fear. We were vulnerable if left him sitting there. What was wrong with that thinking?

It is amazing how little the truth matters to these people. "The end justifies the means." The really scary part is that these people are in power right now. Are we totally screwed, or what?

Roll Call of Hypocrites

A submission from funkycamper:

Quotes from when Clinton committed troops to Bosnia:

"You can support the troops but not the president."
--Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

"Well, I just think it's a bad idea. What's going to happen is they're going to be over there for 10, 15, maybe 20 years."
--Joe Scarborough (R-FL)

"Explain to the mothers and fathers of American servicemen that may come home in body bags why their son or daughter have to give up their life?"
--Sean Hannity, Fox News, 4/6/99

"[The] President . . . is once again releasing American military might on a foreign country with an ill-defined objective and no exit strategy. He has yet to tell the Congress how much this operation will cost. And he has not informed our nation's armed forces about how long they will be away from home. These strikes do not make for a sound foreign policy."
--Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA)

"American foreign policy is now one huge big mystery. Simply put, the administration is trying to lead the world with a feel-good foreign policy."
--Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

"If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy."
--Karen Hughes, speaking on behalf of George W Bush

"I had doubts about the bombing campaign from the beginning . . I didn't think we had done enough in the diplomatic area."
--Senator Trent Lott (R-MS)

"I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace. This administration is just learning that lesson right now. The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions. A month later, these questions are still unanswered. There are no clarified rules of engagement. There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our over-extended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today"
--Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

"Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is."
--Governor George W. Bush (R-TX)

Remember, all this was said yet we won that little fight without losing one single American life. Quite a contrast to the current tragedy.

What Fox News Channel Would Have Done to Rosa Parks

by Cenk Uygur at The Huffington Post

Cindy Sheehan – in case you’ve been living in a box or you only watch the mainstream media – is the mom of slain Iraq War veteran Casey Sheehan. She is protesting in front of George Bush’s Crawford ranch this month. This grieving mom has been characterized as a flip-flopper, accused of putting on a public circus, lambasted as a publicity seeking grandstander and criticized for not truly speaking for her family since an aunt and a godmother Matt Drudge found somewhere in the Sheehan family disagrees with her. The conservative attack machine is in high gear in the efforts to tear this woman down.

That made me think of how it would have been in the Civil Rights era if Fox News Channel, Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge and the rest of the gang were around back then.

O’Reilly: “Rosa Parks claims she speaks for all of the African-Americans in the South, but in fact, we have found two African-Americans who say they disagree with her. They say she’s just trying to gain publicity and doesn’t speak for anyone in her race. They would know, they’re black.”

Hannity: “Could Rosa Parks be angling for a Senate run? What does she have to gain from her public stand? Coming up next, the incredible story of how this woman might be deceiving the whole country!”

Drudge: “We have found three members of the Parks family who say that Rosa doesn’t speak for them. That, in fact, they are very happy with the government of the state of Alabama. The uncle, step-brother-in-law and niece three-times removed all agree that the better route is a dignified, respectful silent deference to authority. Developing …”

Limbaugh: “We have just found information that before Rosa Parks sat in the front of the bus, there were numerous times, she sat in the back of the bus! Ah ha! A flip-flopper!"

Drudge: “More stories on Rosa Parks scandalous history of consistently sitting in the back of the bus before she changed her position and insisted she would only sit in the front of the bus. Developing …”

Malkin: “I think I speak for the entire Parks family, and especially her children, when I say that they are so embarrassed by their mother who is making a public spectacle of herself.”

Hannity: “Rosa Parks has turned this whole so-called civil rights issue into a public circus. We have information that Ted Kennedy might have put her up to this. That amazing story when we come back!”

Colmes: “You’re right, Sean. I’m sorry.”

O’Reilly: “To question the government of Alabama and implicitly the entire United States government by defying the political order like this has to be considered treasonous. Civil disobedience is a code word for I hate America. These people are criminals, simple criminals. It's ridiculous that they think they don't have to live by the same rules as the rest of us.”

Scarborough: “Yeah, whatever they just said on Fox News Channel! Well … I mostly agree with it.”

Kaplan: “Can we hire Shep Smith to cover this? Maybe give him his own show?”

Limbaugh: “What did I tell you folks? These libs like Parks would rather live in France where they can sit anywhere they want on the bus. They hate America. They want special privileges to be able to sit anywhere they want. They hide behind the color of their skin to try to undermine this country.”

Coulter: “Rosa Parks is a dyke!”

Blitzer: “Dr. King, is it true that you support the liberal agitator Rosa Parks in her defiance of America? Can you confirm whether she has in fact sat in the back of the bus before? Do you think this makes her a flip-flopper? If she has been so inconsistent on this, how can we trust her on anything?”

Drudge: “MY SOURCES TELL ME THAT THIS MIGHT BE THE FIRST TIME ROSA PARKS HAS EVER SAT IN THE FRONT OF THE BUS. A whole life of sitting in the back of the bus and now this woman claims all of a sudden she wants to sit in the front of the bus. Developing …”

O’Reilly: “Unbelievable, just unbelievable. Ridiculous!”

Hannity: “Incredible!”

Scarborough: “What did they just say?”

In Unison: “Flip-flopper! Flip-flopper! Flip-flopper!”

Blitzer: “Ms. Parks left the bus in disgrace today after it was confirmed that some members of her family did not agree with her, she had ruined her credibility by working for the NAACP before the bus incident, and she had in fact sat in the back of the bus on previous occasions. Now back to the emotionally wrenching story of the girl missing in …”

Jenna and Barbara to do their duty?

One has to wonder when, not if, the Bush twins are going to sign up for the military. Their father is talking about it being "hard work" for this nation and they, we're sure, are willing to do their part.

The question is not when they'll sign up?, but rather, where will they be allowed to go during their stint?

Daddy got a healthy reprieve from the blood tests and "hard work" during the last years of his "service" to work on campaigns. Jenna and Barbara might be able to do their 4 years in Key Biscayne protecting Uncle Jeb from terrrr.

Bush and Social Security; just in case you've forgotten what he tried to do.

Social Security Lessons
By PAUL KRUGMAN

Social Security turned 70 yesterday. And to almost everyone's surprise, the nation's most successful government program is still intact.

Just a few months ago the conventional wisdom was that President Bush would get his way on Social Security. Instead, Mr. Bush's privatization drive flopped so badly that the topic has almost disappeared from national discussion.

But I'd like to revisit Social Security for a moment, because it's important to remember what Mr. Bush tried to get away with.

Many pundits and editorial boards still give Mr. Bush credit for trying to "reform" Social Security. In fact, Mr. Bush came to bury Social Security, not to save it. Over time, the Bush plan would have transformed Social Security from a social insurance program into a mutual fund, with nothing except a name in common with the system F.D.R. created.

In addition to misrepresenting his goals, Mr. Bush repeatedly lied about the current system. Oh, I'm sorry - was that a rude thing to say? Still, the fact is that Mr. Bush repeatedly said things that were demonstrably false and that his staff must have known were false. The falsehoods ranged from his claim that Social Security is unfair to African-Americans to his claim that "waiting just one year adds $600 billion to the cost of fixing Social Security."

Meanwhile, the administration politicized the Social Security Administration and used taxpayer money to promote a partisan agenda. Social Security officials participated in what were in effect taxpayer- financed political rallies, from which skeptical members of the public were excluded.

I'm writing about this in the past tense, but some of it is still going on. Last week Jo Anne Barnhart, the commissioner of Social Security, published an op-ed article claiming that Social Security as we know it was designed for a society in which people didn't live long enough to collect a lot of benefits. "The number of older Americans living now," wrote Ms. Barnhart, "is greater than anyone could have imagined in 1935."

Now, it turns out that an article on the Social Security Administration's Web site, "Life Expectancy for Social Security," specifically rejects the idea the Social Security was originally "designed in such a way that few people would collect the benefits," and the related idea that the system faces problems from "a supposed dramatic increase in life expectancy in recent years."

And the current number of older Americans as a share of the population is just about what the founders of Social Security expected. The 1934 report of F.D.R.'s Commission on Economic Security, which laid the groundwork for the Social Security Act, projected that 12.7 percent of Americans would be 65 or older by the year 2000. The actual number was 12.4 percent.

Despite Ms. Barnhart's efforts, however, privatization seems to be dead for the time being. The Democratic leadership in Congress defied the punditocracy - which was very much in favor of privatization - by refusing to cave in, and the American people made it clear that they like Social Security the way it is.

But the campaign for privatization provided an object lesson in how the administration sells its policies: by misrepresenting its goals, lying about the facts and abusing its control of government agencies. These were the same tactics used to sell both tax cuts and the Iraq war.

And there are two reasons to study that lesson. One is to be prepared for whatever comes next on Mr. Bush's agenda. Despite the tough talk about Iran, I don't think he can propose another war - there aren't enough troops to fight the wars we already have. But there's still room for another big domestic initiative, probably tax reform.

Forewarned is forearmed: the real goals of reform won't be as advertised, the administration will say things about the current system that aren't true, and the Treasury Department will function in a purely partisan capacity.

The other is that the public's visceral rejection of privatization, together with growing dismay over the debacle in Iraq, offers Democrats an opportunity to make an issue of the administration's pattern of deception. The question is whether they will dare to seize that opportunity, when for some of them it means admitting that they, too, were fooled.

Oklahoma Bomber - Why haven't you heard about this?

A white, Okie tried to board a plane with a bomb. Homeland Security didn't find it necessary to mention much about it. We have to wonder what alert level we'd be at if Bubba were from the Middle East.

Hmmm. Attempted bombing by Oklahoma man.... watch out Iran! This would be a good excuse to declare war.

Lie to Congress...Get a Promotion!

John Bolton is now Dubya's Ambassador to the United Nations. This is true to form for the Bush Regime. Bolton is an abusive, abrasive pig and has lied to Congress, blatantly or, at least by omission so, naturally, in BushWorld, that means PROMOTION!

This is Dubya's way of giving the Senate and the UN a good California Howdy at the same time.
